Whenever you find yourself in discouragement, the first thing you must do is find or get into a Godly community to spur you on. This is exactly the formula the early church had that helped maintain them and grow them through thick and thin.

Pain and bad things have a unique way of drawing us to our knees, humbling us, and ultimately forcing us to cry out to God. As bad as pain and sadness can feel, when we allow God to work, it can lead us to deep intimacy with the Lord.

Do we want to be close to God? Then we must stay in his presence. There’s an endless supply of his presence and God always desires for us to dwell with him day by day and moment by moment. How do we get into his presence, we can worship him. Worshiping God and getting into His presence automatically draws us nearer to Him. When we worship God in good times, it reinforces that God is the source of the favor we experience. Mature believers praise the God of our success not the success itself. However, when we praise and worship Him in circumstances that are difficult, it draws us into the deepest places of our faith and bonds us with our Lord like nothing else. To be close to God, we must be worshippers at all times and in every season.

God desires for people to be saved, to thrive, and to grow. He wants His people and His church to live with a surplus, not a shortage. In fact, the harvest is in full, but the reason there’s a shortage is because there are too many unwilling believers to be servant hearted workers.

One of the things that’s so special about Christianity is that Jesus actually invites us to be like children again. In what way? That’s certainly important as we have a responsibility to mature and grow. However, it’s a dichotomy – to grow in maturity, you must assume a childlike wonder and faith.

How could Jesus be so insensitive as to provoke a grief-stricken seeker to forego a proper burial for his parents? Some scholars have discovered a Jewish custom for having two ceremonies. It may be that Jesus was referring to this second, redundant ceremony. Others still suggest that the wording of the young man’s request means that the father was still living, and the son was asking for permission to fulfill his family duties until his father passed. Either way, Jesus is heightening the urgency of his kingdom work and placing loyalty to his cause above cultural expressions of family loyalties.

There comes a point in all of our lives where our hunger for God and need for Him defies logic, reputation, and the norm. If you want God, if you want a touch from God, go touch Him. Be deliberate. You can have God right here, right now!

Perfection does exist. In fact, when Jesus asks us to love our enemies, He is asking us to be “perfect.” And in Him, we can be perfectly complete because Jesus is perfect, without flaw or fault. We actually can love our enemies, but more importantly, we can be covered by the blood of Jesus that makes us clean and, in a sense, perfect or perfected.

Jesus chose to be a lowly servant and leave paradise to rescue us in broken humanity. For many, we see God as a form of a favor fulfiller and request denier.
